Google Glitch Briefly Disrupts World’s Search

Wow – and I thought Google was the only sure thing going these days.

Google has become part of so many people’s lives on this planet, like a dependable appendage — until suddenly it malfunctions.

Such was the case, at least temporarily, this morning from 9:30 a.m. Eastern time to about 10:25 a.m., when all searches returned results with the same warning message: “This site may harm your computer.” A link then referred users to StopBadware.org, the nonprofit organization that works with Google to flag sites with potentially dangerous software. Even if people chose to click on a link, disregarding the warning, the site would not load.

Google explained what went wrong in a post on its own blog an hour and a half later, which was later revised to clarify that the fault was the company’s own.

Recently, Google Maps had a software glitch that advised drivers trying to get to different points within Staten Island, specifically zip codes 10302 and 10308, to take a 176-mile detour to Schenectady.
