Prosecutors said Nathan Wade Hartley Jr., of 7878 Americana Circle, intentionally ran over the 11-year-old and 15-year-old brothers on Aug. 29 in Chester Harbor because he was bored and it looked fun in a video game.

According to prosecutors, Hartley and three friends were driving around northern Queen Anne’s County about 9 p.m. Aug. 29 when they started talking about “door checking” – an activity popular in the violent video game, “Grand Theft Auto.”

About that time, Hartley spotted the two boys behind him on Central Drive, did a U-turn, crossed all lanes of traffic and drove directly at where they were standing in the grass, prosecutors said.

Hartley hit the 11-year-old boy, who was on a bike, with the front of his Honda Civic and the 15-year-old with the driver-side door. Both boys were flown to Christian Hospital in Newark, Del.

“The only reason these kids are alive is luck or grace or whatever you want to call it,” McDonald said.
